What?

*softly*
Merlin's beard, what is it now?

*sigh* Fine, I'll bite.

WHAT IS IT, SIRIUS?

Sirius, you know it's perfectly normal to find Gnomes hibernating at this time of--

Um... Sirius?

Isn't it BRILLIANT? Where's the cublet? I want to hide this in the shed so she doesn't see it before Christmas!

She's over at... Wait a minute? This is for Wort?

Sirius, are you--? No, I'm not going there.

What? Where? How do you expect her to...

Merlin, she's going to want to sail out on the ocean on boxing day, you know that, don't you?

Of COURSE it's for Wort. I promised her one, didn't I?

Oh, right. I didn't tell you. I told her when I killed all the Death Eaters and came home from the War I'd buy her a pirate ship!

... I know, it's not a real pirate ship, but she has to start somewhere, doesn't she?

Right, Sailboat - Pirate Ship. You do know you're daft, don't you, my love? Utterly and completely--

She'll adore you for it. *kiss*

However, I do have to draw the line somewhere. She may have her pirate ship, but will NOT go sailing the high seas without at least a first mate, and a navigator. Meaning you and I. Furthermore, you will NOT get her a Scabbard, nor will you buy her a bottle of rum.

As for myself, I have nothing against the spirits.

I thought she might start on the Hogwarts lake first to learn how to handle the thing before she takes off for Ceylon and points East. HA!

I know it needs work, mate. A patch here and there should do the trick. And I WILL put the same charm on it that the Hogwarts boats have so she can reach shore if there's an accident. But the Muggle I bought it from swears it's seaworthy as it stands.

*another kiss*

I think we have enough rum to tide us both over for a while, even if we ship out with a ruthless Pirate Queen. And I'm pretty sure she won't flog us. HA!

No, of course she won't, love. She'll love it. Even if she has to take these wounded old dogs with her on her shiny new boat.

Right now, though, we need to get that into the shed before she and Tully get home.

Apparently, Someone gave her a pouch of galleons to go and do some shopping for Christmas presents. At the rate she goes shopping, they could be back before tea time.

Someone, eh? Who could that be? HA! Oh, go on, Moony, don't worry, the girl needs to do her Christmas shopping, after all.

Here, you steady the mast and I'll -- Naviculum leviosa! Hang on, let me open the shed...

*grunt* Here, right here is good...

So... how long do you think we have before she and the elf get home with her loot?

Uff... this thing is a lot bigger than it looked at first.

What was that? How long?

Hmmmm? I wonder. I suppose that would depend on how much she has to spend and if that Someone included Uncle Severus and Draco on the list, now, doesn't it?

If Someone put them on the list it surely wasn't me! She's old enough to make up her own mind about who she wants to give presents to.

Hmmm... you, me, alone in a shed crowded with awkward tools... reminds me of that time out behind Greenhouse Three at school. Remember that? Think we can do it again without breaking any bones?

Oh God, I can't believe you'd even think of that again!

No, I take that back, I can definitely believe it. However, that doesn't mean I think we ought to go back to it again. Hmmm, let me think of our options here. We could either stay out here in the cold with the relative discomfort of hard, wooden benches and stone ground...

...Oooor... We could go inside and make sure one of those guest rooms still works alright.

It's entirely up to you, love. Let me just say, though, between my hip and your knee, we might want to consider the advantages of the whole "older and wiser" factor.

Or at least "older."

Mate, you know I adore you to distraction, but the idea of "christening" our daughter's Christmas present is rather...

ah, mmmm.... Godric, yes --

all right, let's go inside. Upstairs. NOW.
